Who we are

Prashna Thiyenne Ahanna ("PTA", "we", "us") runs a Sinhala-first community platform where people ask questions, answer them, vote in polls and publish articles and poetry. It is available as a website at prashnathiyenneahanna.com and as an Android app.

This policy explains what information the Android app and website collect, how we use it, who we share it with and the choices you have. Questions? Email info@prashnathiyenneahanna.com.

Information we collect

Information you give us

• Account details: your name or username, email address and password when you register. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address and profile picture from Google.
• Gender: the gender you select in the app.
• Profile: anything you add, such as a profile photo or a short bio.
• Your content: questions, answers, comments, poll votes, articles, poems, reports and messages you send in chat, together with your follows and followers.
• Anonymous questions: these hide your name from other members. We still link them to your account so we can handle abuse and enforce our rules.
• Beta sign-up: if you join the beta from this website, the email address you enter. We use it only to send you early access and launch news.
• Messages to us: anything you email to us, including account deletion requests.

Information collected automatically

• Device and app data: device model, operating system version, app version, language, IP address and a device or app-instance identifier.
• Reading interests: which categories of posts you read. We use this to tailor your feed.
• Bot check: when you sign in or sign up, Cloudflare Turnstile checks signals from your device and network (such as IP address and browser or device characteristics) to confirm you are a person and not an automated bot.
• Crash reports: technical details of app crashes, collected through a third-party crash-reporting service.

We do not collect your precise location, contacts, SMS or call logs.

How we use information

• Create and manage your account, and let you sign in.
• Show your questions, answers, polls, articles and poems to the community.
• Personalise your feed based on the categories you read.
• Send in-app notifications and service messages.
• Keep the community safe: review reports, remove harmful content and stop bots, spam and abuse.
• Fix crashes and improve the app.
• Back up and protect your data, and comply with the law.

Who we share it with

Other members. Questions, answers, polls, articles, poems and your public profile are visible to other members and, on the website, to visitors. Do not post anything you want to keep private.

Service providers. We use trusted providers to run the app: Google (sign-in), Cloudflare (security and bot protection), a crash-reporting service and our hosting provider. They process data only to provide those services to us, under their own privacy policies.

Legal and safety. We may disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the safety of our members and our service.

We do not sell your personal information.

How long we keep it

We keep your account information and content for as long as your account is active. When you ask us to delete your account, we delete your account and personal details within 30 days. Your questions, answers, articles, poems and chat messages are not deleted: they are anonymised, so they stay on PTA credited to a deleted user and are no longer linked to your name. Copies in backups are cleared within 90 days. The Delete account page sets out exactly what is deleted and what is kept.

Your choices and rights

• Access and correct: view and edit your profile details in the app.
• Delete: ask us to delete your account at any time. Content you posted is anonymised rather than deleted. See how to delete your account.
• Ask us: to see what we hold about you or to raise a concern, email info@prashnathiyenneahanna.com.

Security and transfers

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS). No system is completely secure, so please choose a strong password and keep it private.

Some of our service providers may process data on servers outside Sri Lanka.

Children

PTA is not for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has given us information, email us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we make a significant change, we will update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, tell you in the app. If the Sinhala and English versions differ, the English version applies.
